Needless to say, I am a big enthusiastic of diaries, and this is because, over the years, I have proven their value and how much they give us. I have been writing one for, well, more than 20 years, and I think we can all do it, whether or not we have writing skills.
We have already talked about the benefits of handwriting, and also how we can include past, present and future in our notebook. But what does it take to start writing a diary?
A notebook
That was what led me to start this journey in the first place: when I was a teenager, I found a notebook with padded covers and my favorite color in the neighborhood bookstore. It was love at first sight. The notebook alone inspired me to write.
It is true that any notebook can serve us for this purpose, but it is important to feel comfortable with the one we choose to entrust our thoughts. I advise, then, to choose a suitable notebook, which resonates with us either because of the color, because of the beauty of the covers, because of how manageable it is… (The same applies, of course, to the pencil or pen that we will use).
A ritual
Any place and moment we have free is, without a doubt, the most suitable to write in our diary. If we have been writing for some time and we are able to concentrate on any circumstance, those few minutes waiting for public transport, or the time we spend on social networks, are ideal to write if we take the diary with us.
However, if we are trying to get into the habit of writing, building a ritual will help us a lot. Choose a place where we feel comfortable, schedule some time without pressure, maybe prepare some tea or coffee in our favoritue cup. The simple fact of starting to prepare things for our ritual will already turn us on a reflective mode, and we will get the best results.
And now that?
Once we have the right instruments and some time reserved, we just need to start writing. Okay, but what to write about?
In another post we will talk about how much you can do with a journal, but for now, I invite you to look out the window. How is the weather today? How does it make you feel? Does it remind you of another day when something interesting happened to you? Write all that. Write about what you have done in the day, about the last thing you read ... Or simply let out everything that comes to your mind at that time. Anything is possible, it's your diary! And nobody is going to read it except you.
Our Coptic notebooks are ideal for keeping a diary. You can choose the original artwork you want for the cover, and they have 80 blank sheets ready to receive your confidences. Do you dare to start your own diary?
