In an increasingly technological world, the simple act of taking a pencil and writing on a paper seems to be obsolete. But should we abandon it altogether? What does this activity give to us? Today we have summarized here some of its benefits.
7 benefits of handwriting
1. Improves learning, understanding and memory:
While typing just involves select a letter and press it on your keyboard, when writing by hand, the effort required to shape each of the letters and connect them together, gives us great results. With each stroke a different part of the brain is activated, and, in addition, it remains a trace of our hand's motor work on our brain, which guarantees that we remember better what was written down. Compared to the act of quickly typing what an exponent says, with what we usually achieve an almost exact copy of his words on our devices, handwriting takes longer, and this forces us to filter his message, choose the most relevant points and write it our way, which guarantees not only a better understanding and even a potentiation of critical thinking, but also a better fixation of concepts, that is, greater memorization.
2. Keeps the brain active:
That extra work we do when writing by hand, involves a much higher percentage of the brain, exercises it and keeps it in good condition, which prevents or delays the onset of cognitive impairment associated with advanced ages, and diseases such as senile dementia or Alzheimer's.
3. Improve concentration:
In a notebook, needless to say, we will not have an Internet connection, that is, there will be no applications, notifications, messages, images, that constantly distract us from our goal. This, in combination with the use of a greater part of the brain (which will not be thinking about other things), guarantees us a better concentration.
4. Improves spelling:
Nor do we have an automatic proofreader on the paper that points to a misspelled word, so a part of our brain, let's call it an "organic concealer", which has to do with pattern recognition, remains active as we write and sends messages of discomfort to us when we commit any spelling failure.
5. Improve our ability to express:
In front of a paper, we take time to think what we want to say, to explore our emotions and reactions, our thoughts, and to choose the perfect words to express them. This directly influences our ability to express in face-to-face conversations.
6. Relieves stress:
There is nothing better to release tensions than sitting down to write what goes through our head without censorship (only for our eyes, of course!) So we also manage to free our minds from the excess of idle thoughts that prevent us from concentrating on the most important task of the moment
7. Improve our analysis capacity:
Whether with a branstorming, a mind map, or a simple list, breaking down the situation or task ahead will help us see them more clearly, organize our ideas and find solutions that another way we may not see.
With this post we hope to have awakened in you the desire to revive your handwriting mode, and take advantadge of all its benefits.
